Things are not going smoothly between the scooter riders and the other road users. The situation seems to be gradually escalating on the streets and sidewalks in Klagenfurt. The police therefore set up their own special unit.
In the capital of Carinthia, currently four rental companies can offer 170 e-scooters each. But no one knows how many are actually on the road. A scooter count with a counterfeit-proof sticker is one of the measures being considered.
Half of accidents involving cyclists and scooter riders
According to the police, half of the accidents involving personal injury in the city are caused by cyclists or scooter riders every year. The Disabled Persons Association complains about endangering the visually impaired. And just about everyone gets annoyed when there are carelessly parked speedsters in the path.
“That is why the Scooter working group will meet for the first time in Klagenfurt on 1 September,” says Transport Alderman Sandra Wassermann. Representatives of all parties, the police, the municipality and public order check what is legally possible, whether you can find a local police ordinance. After that, the lenders that want to contribute to solutions are called in.
Ten employees pick up the scooters
Tier Mobilitys, with around 20,000 customers in the Klagenfurt area, has a GPS system that can disable scooters in restricted zones. The company is initially using this system in Paris. “If desired, we can also develop this for Klagenfurt,” says regional manager Jakob Orgonyi, who has ten employees in Carinthia to collect bones on the street.
Correct parking credit
Villach currently has two providers with a total of 150 scooters, an upper limit of 200 and zones in which you receive a credit for correct parking. The working group will also ask in Graz how the rental ban has been enforced there. Even if you don’t want to think about it yet.
