A brutal attack in which a heavily pregnant Viennese woman was pushed by the robber and the friend who came to the rescue was also beaten unscrupulously – this dramatic incident was heard recently in court. The suspect faces ten years in prison. But in the end it turned out that the crime was fabricated by the alleged injured party. Due to a botched drug deal (it was only a few hundred euros), the alleged victim probably wanted to get revenge on the suspect – and put him behind bars with the fake robbery. The incident is said to have taken place in a park in Simmering at the end of October. The pregnant woman said she was traveling with a new electric scooter, her partner and sister when strangers asked her if they could use the vehicle for a ride. When she refused, the strangers pushed her so hard that she fell on her back. When her boyfriend came to her aid, he was hit and fell to the ground. The later accused and two companions would then have stepped on the defenseless partner together. They then grabbed the scooter and fled.
Accused only acquitted by extensive investigation
The alleged victims of the attack eventually discovered the alleged perpetrator, whom they did not know before, on a social network. One of the accomplices called him by his first name during the robbery so they could have easily found him. The suspect eventually ended up in court – risking ten years in prison. “It didn’t look good for my client at first,” attorney Philipp Slemr told krone.at. There was no further evidence of the crime, but the couple’s statements weighed heavily. “Only through painstakingly detailed work could we unmask the web of lies as such and save my client from a long prison term.”
Witnesses and a broken cell phone solved the case
Because the alleged victim had stated that she had never seen the suspect before – even though she and her boyfriend had been on one drug deal or the other for years. After extensive research, four witnesses were eventually found who could confirm the knowledge of the three in court. The pregnant woman also indicated that the suspect had shaved. Selfies of the suspect, recovered from a broken cell phone, showed he had a handsome beard at the time of the crime.
The couple was apparently furious because the accused owed them some money – in the amount of about 300 euros. But that was reason enough to want to put the ‘business partner’ behind bars with a false statement. But now the young mother herself faces a lawsuit for defamation. “Whether my client ultimately owed the alleged victim anything is irrelevant. There will certainly be legal ramifications for the false charges against my client,” Slemr said.
