The fire in the house, in which a restaurant and an apartment are located on the first floor, broke out just before 04:30 on Tuesday. The facade and eventually the roof were on fire. The 29-year-old resident had inhaled smoke and was taken to hospital.
The cause was initially unclear. The fire service started work on Tuesday. The result of the investigations: “It can be assumed with a probability bordering on certainty that smoking products caused a fire,” the police report said.
Hoping for clues
According to investigators, there was a witness between 01:45 and 04:00 above the fire object, the “Bierstüberl Imst” (formerly “Oldybar”), on the Römerweg, at least two young people were noticed. The Imst police are asking witnesses who can provide information about the fire or the two young people to come forward.
