Gas deliveries from Russia via Nord Stream 1 have been suspended since Wednesday due to renewed maintenance work. This also has direct consequences for Austria: according to OMV, 70 percent less gas will flow today than contractually agreed. According to the Ministry of Energy, the storage target of 80 percent by 1 November is still achievable.
Gazprom has announced that the pipeline will be closed for maintenance from August 31 to September 2. Gas deliveries to Austria announced for today would roughly match the quantities that flowed during the past Nord Stream 1 maintenance, the ministry said.
Gas transport through the pipeline has been standing still for weeks and is at about 20 percent of capacity. Delivery volumes via Ukraine are stable. The missing quantities from Russia could be compensated with additional purchases.
Storage destination still within reach
On average, household gas storages are currently 66 percent full, which is equivalent to 63.1 terawatt hours (TWh) of gas and about 71 percent of annual gas consumption. The storage of OMV currently has the highest filling at 91 percent. According to experts, the goal of filling household gas storage tanks to 80 percent by November 1 is still achievable, the Ministry of Energy announced.
In recent days, between 400 and 450 gigawatt hours (GWh) of gas has been stored daily. The strategic reserve of 20 TWh will also be fully stocked by 1 November.
