Of the 55 vacancies for teachers, 25 have now been filled well before school starts. This fills most of the vacant classroom teachers.
Somewhat clear after the big shock on Tuesday, when education director Heinrich Himmer confirmed to the “Krone” that a few days before the school started, 55 primary classes in Vienna were still not in charge.
Himmer is relieved
“After intensive discussions with all school locations, we were able to fill 35 of these classes through internal school solutions,” Himmer said with relief on Wednesday. “We will solve the rest through relocations or new appointments”, he assures that classes will start for all children on Monday.
Precisely with the new appointments, however, there seems to be a problem. Because in May, the education department received 6,000 applications. One of them was Sophie K. She studies at the Educational University and therefore meets all the requirements. To date, however, she has not received a response. And the teacher Barbara P. from Upper Austria, who wanted to move to Vienna, we reported, has not yet received an offer.
Still positive: to make school start affordable for all families, the city provides primary and secondary schools with 4.9 million euros in school supplies. “An important contribution in times of rising prices,” says Himmer.
