Many Lower Austrians who get their electricity from Wien Energie currently want to switch to their local provider – but there is a problem! The “Krone” knows the background.
The electricity in thousands of households in the metropolitan areas around the federal capital does not only come from the mains, but also from Vienna. Vienna’s network extends in the southern suburbs almost to Wiener Neustadt and includes both Klosterneuburg and Groß-Enzersdorf.
Lots of movement on the regional electricity market
Due to the sharp rise in energy prices, the regional electricity market is moving. EVN already has 25,000 customers who have returned from low-cost providers to the domestic supplier. And it is not surprising that after the financial turbulence at Wien Energie became known, more and more people in Lower Austria around the federal capital want to buy blue-yellow electricity in the future. But that is not possible.
“Like almost all state energy companies, we only offer in our own network area,” confirms EVN spokesman Stefan Zach. In plain language: Lower Austrians in the above regions can choose from nearly 70 electricity providers – but not those in their own state!
Great willingness to switch providers
“People don’t understand that,” says Mödling Mayor Hans Stefan Hintner, who is currently constantly being asked about this. In crises, confidence in Lower Austria appears to be greater than that in Vienna. Hintner: “Many would like the opportunity to change.”
