Eight-year-old Daisy Passfield has been through a lot despite her young age. She lost her right eye to a rare cancer. But now she has fulfilled a dream: with a pink eye prosthesis, she looks like a superhero. And it’s not just her friends who feel that way.
Daisy was diagnosed with a so-called retinoblastoma when she was only 14 months old. Initially, attempts were made to defeat the malignant tumor in the retina through some chemotherapy treatments. But the dangerous growth, which comes from genetically modified immature retinal cells and leads to death if left untreated, started growing again. So the doctors decided to remove the right eye.
First, Daisy got a black eye that matched her natural eye color. But this year, the eight-year-old, who mother Alysia Passfield said had been incredibly brave through the therapies, had a wish. She wanted an extraordinary eye in her favorite color, pink. And it should also sparkle a little. This wish was granted to the girl. Now Daisy can’t wait to show her “superhero eye” to her classmates.
The eight-year-old’s friends are excited and say that the eye reminds them of a dragon or a unicorn. Both mythical creatures that Daisy is fond of, Alysia Passfield tells the British newspaper “Daily Mail”. “She can lead a normal life for the most part, except she can’t drive harvest vehicles and airplanes. But I don’t think that will ever bother us,” said the 30-year-old.
