The Lobau activists pitch their tents: the last protest camp in Vienna’s Anfanggasse will soon be disbanded by the residents themselves.
“We are dismantling everything, packing our backpacks and moving,” Lucia Steinwender, spokeswoman for LobauBleibt, announced via broadcast on Thursday. Specifically, this should happen next Monday at 6pm – as part of a big demo, as they say.
September 5 as deadline
In fact, this is also the last day the city will allow activists to leave the Anfanggasse area. As reported, the evacuation of the last protest camp was already on the city’s agenda. This is the owner of the property.
According to MA 42, for safety reasons, the trees on the site must be regularly checked and cared for by experts. However, that has not been possible for months. There was also a rat infestation. According to the police, the activists now have until September 5 to “clear the field”.
Next location will not be revealed
The most active people now leave voluntarily, as it were, but only to pitch their tents elsewhere – exactly where, that remained unanswered for the time being. “Ludwig and Co. can be excited to see where we will pop up next,” said LobauBleibt spokeswoman Lena Schilling.
