From Saturday, gas should actually flow through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline towards the EU again. But apparently nothing comes of this: as the company Gazprom announced on Friday, gas transport via this route will not be resumed.
The reason is that an oil leak was discovered during maintenance work, the company announced on Friday evening. Due to the damage, a gas turbine cannot be operated safely. Gazprom did not provide information on the duration of the stop.
In recent months there has been fierce bickering about gas supplies from Russia to European countries. For example, Nord Stream 1 had been out of service for a long time due to a missing turbine being serviced in Canada. Since then, deliveries have been significantly reduced.
While Russia has always cited more or less credible “technical flaws” as the reason, doubts about the official statements grew in the West.
