This year, Airpower relies heavily on public transport. The organizers also advise against driving on Saturdays.
The number of parking spaces around the Airpower has been halved compared to the last event in 2019 and parking tickets had to be reserved in advance. At the same time, the organizers called on fans in advance to travel by public transport.
The appeal was heard by tens of thousands, as there was no widespread traffic accident on Friday. There were traffic jams, but almost no people who arrived had to spend more than half an hour to 45 minutes.
Many fans did without the car
The parking spaces were only 75 percent full, while the trains were full and a total of 150 buses came to Zeltweg. “Our concept was very well received,” says Airpower project manager Wolfgang Prieler. “Maybe the high fuel price will also help us reduce the number of people using the car.”
For Saturday the organizers hope that the arrival will be just as successful. Then there should be 25,000 more fans than yesterday. “During the main rush hour from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. you can expect traffic jams if you come by car,” said a police spokesman.
