Following the closure of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline through Russia, we are assessing the status of the other three main routes supplying gas to Europe.

Russia has the North Stream 1one of the four main gas pipelines from which Europe receives gas.
Gazprom announced on Friday the total shutdown of gas supply through the gas pipeline connecting Russia to Germany, following an oil leak discovered during maintenance duties at the only station that has worked so far.
The European Commission has accused Russia of “cynicism” and using “false pretexts” to justify the complete shutdown of gas flow, while the company Siemens Energy has confirmed that the version given by the company Gazprom “does not constitute a technical reason to cease operations in the infrastructure”.
We are looking at the other routes available for the supply of gas to Europe.
turkish stream
The Turkish Turkstream remains open and gas is also supplied to Europe via Serbia and Bulgaria. In fact, Bulgaria has increased gas imports.
This gas pipeline was recently opened, in 2020. In any case, it would require a major investment to save the supply to Europe.
Since the beginning of the war, Hungary has maintained a pragmatic relationship with Moscow; something that has broken the union of Europe, while Hungary has increased its gas imports.
Turkey is in a particularly strategic position, both to import gas from Russia and to import gas from other countries or suppliers, such as Iran or Qatar.
Ankara has been willing to help several times since the energy crisis broke out, but for that it is essential to make major investments in infrastructure.
Through Poland and Ukraine
The Yamal gas pipeline, which runs through Poland, is another of the most important, although the flow has stopped since May.
Europe also receives gas via Ukraine, but in the latter case the flow has decreased significantly.
For his part, the European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, assured this Saturday that: the European Union “is ready” for the interruption of Russian gas, while they expected Russia to honor its contracts.
“We expect Russia to honor the contracts it has, but even if its use of energy as a weapon continues or increases, the EU is ready to respond,” he said.
