Right in the center – Tel Aviv: Several dead after shots fired at passers-by

Date:

At least two people were killed in an attack in the center of the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, according to paramedics. Several other people are said to have suffered gunshot wounds. A killer fired on patrons of a pub on busy Dizengoff Street, police said. Security forces were looking for the perpetrator. Police urged residents not to leave their homes.

The Zaka rescue service reported that security forces exchanged gunshots with the killer. Sirens could be heard again and again in the city center and a police helicopter circled nearby.

Apparently two killers
Police spoke of two perpetrators, while rescue chief Magen David said, according to initial information, that two were killed and another five injured, who were taken to hospital. The investigation continued until late in the evening. Hundreds of police and armed officers ran along the main street into side streets as the perpetrators were suspected of being nearby. Dozens of ambulances were parked on the road.

Events roll over
Security cameras in Pub Iksa, where it is said to have started, show customers falling outside, tripping over injured people on the floor and knocking over tables. The police called on anyone who was curious to return home immediately because the situation was still life-threatening as long as the terrorists were not caught. About an hour after the shooting began, Ichilov Hospital reported two dead. Another eight people were injured.

Suddenly, people were seen on the roof of the Dizengoff 176 house. Dozens of police officers circle the building. It is suspected that one of the terrorists has holed up there. The events are still taking place and in the meantime twelve people have been injured and two have died.

Beware of further acts of violence
Eleven people have been killed in a series of attacks in Israel in the past two weeks. In two of the three attacks, the attackers were Israeli Arabs with ties to IS. In the most recent attack a week ago, the killer was a Palestinian.

The country fears further acts of violence during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday. The attacks marked the bloodiest week in Israel in 16 years.

There have been repeated attacks in Tel Aviv in the past. In January 2016, an Israeli Arab shot and killed two people on Dizengoff Street. In June 2016, two Israelis killed four and injured several others in Sarona Park in central Tel Aviv.
