At least six mountaineers have died on a volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. They fell from a great height. The mission continued on Sunday afternoon.
So a helicopter broke out because it couldn’t land earlier because of the many clouds. Work is also currently hampered by rain and wind, state agency Tass reports. The mission is not only about saving the dead, but also treating the wounded.
Group of twelve
On Tuesday, a group of 12 people set out to climb the volcano in Kamchatka. At 4750 meters it is the highest active volcano in Eurasia. At least six tourists fell from a great height 500 meters below the summit. A mountain guide was injured, another alerted rescue services via satellite phone.
Three people remained in a camp at 3300 meters and were not there for the last part of the walk. The exact circumstances of the accident were still unclear on Sunday.
