On Sunday, a Cessna registered in Austria fell into the sea over the Baltic Sea – near the Latvian coast. The newspaper “Bild” reports that there were four people on board the machine.
The Cessna 551, OE-FGR, had started in Jerez, Spain and was scheduled to fly to Cologne, Germany, according to Austrian Wings.
But the plane never came. Instead, radar contact broke off and radio messages from the cockpit were no longer responded to. Instead, the machine continued on towards the Baltic Sea without changing course. According to the flight radar data, the machine made a few loops there, quickly losing altitude. Shortly after 7.45 pm the radar signal was lost and the aircraft plunged into the sea.
No life signs on board
According to the Swedish news agency TT, a Swedish coastguard helicopter would have discovered that there was no one in the cockpit. No signs of life were seen in the cabin either.
