Pope Francis has been temporarily banned from traveling to Kiev or Moscow from his doctor. The head of the Catholic Church – who says he is in constant contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin – wants to campaign locally for an early end of the war. However, knee recovery was “complicated”.
However, in an interview with the Portuguese TV channel TVI/CNN Portugal, the Pope assured that he would do everything in his power to end the conflict in Ukraine.
“I’m doing what I can. And I’m asking everyone to do what they can. But the situation is really tragic,” the Pope said. Several Vatican representatives have been in Kiev since the war started.
“Now I Can’t Travel”
Until his visit to Kazakhstan, which is scheduled for September 13-15, he will not undertake any further travel, the Pope said in an interview, excerpts of which have already been published: “Now I cannot travel, because after the trip to Canada, my knee has suffered some recovery.”
Francis has been plagued with health problems for months. His right knee hurts so bad he can barely walk. At the audience, the Pope usually appears in a wheelchair. He would refuse surgery because of concerns about the anesthetic.
