A truck caught fire on the Vienna outer ring road (A21) near Alland in Lower Austria on Tuesday night. The articulated truck loaded with groceries was driving in the Vienna lane when engine damage was believed to have occurred.
A passing motorist called just after 2:30 a.m. “When we arrived, the tractor cab was fully engulfed in flames, the flames had already hit the refrigeration unit or the front part of the refrigeration trailer and part of the adjacent embankment was also on fire,” said Harald. Schieder, fire brigade manager of FF Alland.
No injuries
The driver tried to put out the flames himself with a hand extinguisher. The man was unharmed. Four fire brigades were deployed to extinguish the fire, the district command reported on the broadcaster.
The fire brigade also had to pump out two diesel tanks and bind the leaked fuel. The A21 between Alland and Mayerling was closed during the extinguishing work. The operation ended at 6 am.
