Russia says it will resume Nord Stream when turbine is repaired by Siemens Energy

Date:

Moscow insists that it should be the energy company that repairs the turbine in the Portovaya compressor station, as it can only be repaired in a specialized workshop. For its part, Siemens points out that the oil leak is not a technical reason to completely shut down the gas pipeline.

Gas through the g . pumpsNord Stream Pipelineconnecting Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, resumes when the turbine is repaired by Siemens Energy on the basis of the “contractual work” it is required to perform, Russia’s energy minister said on Tuesday, Nikolai Shulginov.

The flow will resume “once the problem is solved according to the contractual obligation to repair the turbine”, in which a oil leak during maintenance work, the politician said during the VII Eastern Economic Forum that started today in Vladivostok, according to the official TASS bureau.

Russia insists that Siemens Energy should be the one to repair the turbine of the Portovaya compressor station in the Leningrad region, the only one still in operation, as it can only be repaired in a specialized workshop, such as the one in Canada of the German company.

However, Siemens has pointed out that the oil leak it is not a technical reason to completely shut down the gas pipeline as Gazprom did last Friday, as the problem can be sealed “in situ”. In addition, he has assured that sufficient turbines are available.

But the Kremlin and Gazprom have emphasized that it’s the sanctions that cause the problems in the compressor station because there are no spare parts if a turbine fails and the repaired ones cannot return to Russia due to western restrictions.

In this sense, Moscow has insisted that in these circumstances the problems in the gas pipeline will continue and given what happened to the turbine repaired in Canada, the affected engine cannot now be repaired unless the sanctions are lifted.
