The Government of Navarra expects Siemens Gamesa to make a “responsible engagement” with the Foral community

The Minister of Economic and Business Development, Mikel Irujo, appeared in the Parliament of Navarra on Tuesday, following Siemens’ takeover bid for 100% of Gamesa, and stated that the Executive is holding meetings at various levels with the company’s environment and with the unions.

The Economic and Business Development Advisor to the Government of Navarre, Mikel Irujoannounced this Tuesday in the Parliament of Navarre that he hopes that Siemens Gamesa a “responsible commitment” with his template in Navarraafter Siemens’ takeover bid for 100% of Gamesa.

During a parliamentary appearance at the request of Navarra Suma, Irujo assured that the Navarra government has held meetings at various levels with those around the company, as well as with the trade unions, and will continue to do so. He has even announced that he is working on a “top-level” meeting with the new CEO of Siemens Gamesa, to learn the details of Mistral, the company’s new business plan.

“During all the meetings that have been held and that will follow, we have expressed our concern for the company the future of the 1,763 people currently employed by Siemens Gamesa in Navarra“, between Sarriguren, Pamplona and Arazuri, and “we continue to work firmly and ask the company for a responsible commitment with a staff of people with highly qualified professional profiles and added value,” he said.

As he added, in the context of a “critical situation for the wind sector in Europe”, Siemens Gamesa is a company of “great value and importance” to Navarra, and the Executive intends that the impact of this takeover bid is “as small as is possible”.

In favor of this objective, he pointed out that “the company has pointed to the competitiveness of this part of its workforce, and that the workers are not the problem” until the current 1763, not counting the 239 in the Aoiz sheet factory”.

The minister also recalled that of the 1,250 million euros spent annually in the Spanish state on purchases, 240 million euros corresponded to operations with suppliers from Navarra. According to him, they are data that “confirm the company’s confidence in the Autonomous Community and its commitment to the good work of the factories in Navarra.

Carlos Pérez Nievas, spokesman for Navarra Suma, has stated that “the perspective worries us”. He has clarified that it is not just because of the business background, but because of “some partners of this government”, whom he has blamed a project that “impossible” wind development with a steppe bird conservation plan, “when it exists too, on the part of some , a genuine interest in the worse the better”.
