Both Moscow and Kiev are awaiting an “objective” report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the situation at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which will be published today by its director-general Rafael Grossi. and submitted to the UN.
“We are waiting for the truth and verification of the real situation, of the real threats that can be observed on the ground,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told the Russian newspaper. RBC.
The representative of the Russian presidency confirmed that “many are now nervously waiting for the IAEA report”.
“And the Ukrainians are nervous, the Ukrainian side has already expressed its displeasure with this mission, because it had the chance to see everything with its own eyes and make the necessary checks,” he said.
Ukraine’s President Volodímir Zelensky has also expressed hope in his usual late-night speech that the IAEA report is “objective”, although he previously questioned this mission over the agency’s refusal to call for demilitarization of the factory.
Zelensky again blamed Russia for the attack on the nuclear power plant, which the day before led to the plant’s second disconnection from the Ukrainian power grid in its history.
“I think it’s significant that Russia is doing this now, just on the eve of the IAEA conclusions,” he said.
