The Vienna police can look back on a major investigation success: in the period from January to July 2022, a total of 110 criminal offenses related to 65 suspects were solved.
The investigations started in January 2022. The reason was an increased incidence of criminal offenses by young people in Vienna’s 16th and 17th districts. Complaints and reports increased, especially in the area of parks, but also at the U3 station Ottakring and the S45 station Hernals.
Researched in 16-year-old and 17-year-old
Among other things, typical youth meeting places were visited for prevention conversations with young people and numerous identity checks were carried out. Police officers learned of a 17-year-old who had been repeatedly linked to criminal offences. A 16-year-old was also targeted by investigators.
The young people were found to have committed numerous criminal offenses within their group. The two young men have been arrested and are in custody.
From serious physical injury to sexual abuse
The list of criminal offenses is long: in addition to serious physical injury, numerous thefts, severe coercion, fraudulent misuse of data processing, material damage, arson, offenses under the Weapons Act and robbery can be clarified. As if that were not enough, the youth gang is also accused of scuffle, sexual abuse of minors and burglary.
A third group of minors and young people could therefore be identified very quickly.
