5 injured in Tyrol – fully occupied car crashes into trucks on the highway

Fatal accident Tuesday afternoon on the A12 Inntal Autobahn in the Tiroler Unterland: A 59-year-old resident drove almost unbraked behind a truck. The driver, his three children (9, 17 and 20) in the back seat and his passenger (43) were injured in the collision – the 20-year-old son was seriously injured. The highway had to be temporarily closed to all traffic.

The serious accident happened shortly before 2 p.m. on the A12 near Münster (Kufstein district). A 62-year-old Bosnian was driving his truck in the first lane towards Innsbruck when the local driver hit the back of the trailer with full force for reasons that are unclear.

“Due to the violent impact, the car came to a stop in the second lane, completely damaged,” police said. All five occupants of the car were injured. “The driver’s 20-year-old son suffered serious injuries and was flown by ambulance helicopter to the Kufstein district hospital,” investigators continued. The 59-year-old driver, his two other children and the Egyptian passenger (43) were taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving first aid at the accident site.

A12 temporarily completely closed
The truck driver escaped unharmed and unharmed. In addition to rescue workers, emergency doctor and police, the fire brigade was on site with four vehicles and 25 emergency services. The A12 was completely closed from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – around 3:10 p.m. the highway was open again for two lanes.
