Extreme heat – wildfires rage: two dead in Southern California

Date:

Two people have died in a wildfire in Southern California. Another person was injured in the rapidly spreading fire in Riverside County, southeastern Los Angeles, according to authorities. The so-called “Fairview” fire broke out on Monday and was only five percent under control on Tuesday. More than 250 firefighters are present.

In the west coast state, several areas are on fire. Two people were killed in a fire last weekend in the Northern California district of Siskiyou, near the town of Weed. Meanwhile, the emergency services have more than half of the “mill fire” under control. More than 140 houses were damaged or destroyed there.

After a nearly rainless summer, many parts of California are severely parched and highly flammable. In addition, there has been extreme heat in the western United States for days. In the state capital of Sacramento, temperatures soared to 45 degrees Celsius on Monday, according to the US Weather Bureau, a record in Sacramento.
