“Until his last day, he continued his artistic work fearlessly and with joy and was full of plans for the future.” With these words, the family of the artist Gottfried Kumpf now addressed the public. The resident of Salzburg died on Monday after a cardiac arrest.
Gottfried Kumpf was born on November 29, 1930 in Annaberg-Lungötz. After a few years in Vienna he settled as a painter in Breitenbrunn in Burgenland.
Also for the camera
In 1970, Kumpf starred in front of the camera with Helmut Qualtinger in Bernhard Wicki’s feature film “The Wrong Weight” in Hungary. The first sculptural works were also created in the 1970s.
Especially the so-called Kumpf-Männchen – naive-looking sculptures and figures – became known.
Born in Salzburg, he focused on architecture in the 1990s. For example, he designed the forecourt of the Bisamberg water inlet drive as a sculpture park for the Vienna Water Company.
