Marija Alyokhina, founder of Pussy Riot, spoke to the “Krone” in Vienna about the war in Ukraine, the lame support of the West and explains why the Russian regime has fascist features.
Since 2011, the predominantly female collective Pussy Riot has been getting on Vladimir Putin’s nerves with dissident political punk. World fame was achieved in 2012 with the “Punk Prayer” at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, which took three women to a labor camp after a long trial. Marija “Masha” Alchonia was one of them and has been imprisoned six times in the last ten years. In May she made a spectacular flight to Lithuania, now she is touring with Pussy Riot to raise money for a children’s hospital in Kiev. Before her performance at Porgy & Bess in Vienna, we sat down with the protestant to talk about the war in Ukraine, two-faced oligarchs and the need for punk.
