Wolves in Tyrol and East Tyrol are attacked again: The independent supervisory board for assessing the danger of large carnivores has made recommendations at its last meeting for the removal of a total of four wolves in East Tyrol. After the Tyrolean state government decided on the associated danger regulations on Tuesday, the authority made the shooting decisions on Thursday. In total, the wolves account for about 265 sheep.
“As recommended by the experts, two young animals from the Hochstadel pack in Lavant on the border with Carinthia and two male wolves from the Italian population in the Kartitsch-Obertilliach area are released for shooting,” a state broadcaster said. The Hochstadel herd, from which two young animals are to be taken after a Swiss model, killed a total of 30 sheep and three cattle – one in East Tyrol and two in Carinthia – as well as injured calves.
