There was another heavy avalanche in Tyrol! In Kirchberg (Kitzbühel district), a 43-year-old ski tourer was hit by an avalanche on Friday and dragged about 200 meters. His four companions came to his aid. The avalanche danger is still high in Tyrol.

The Austrian was with four colleagues on the southeastern slope of the Brechhorn shortly before noon when an avalanche erupted and hit him. This tore him about 200 yards. He was partially buried and left lying there. Fortunately, the 43-year-old was able to detach his avalanche airbag during the accident.

Colleagues responded quickly
His companions rushed to the rescue and were able to free him completely from the snow and set the rescue chain in motion. “After first aid by the emergency doctor, the victim was flown to the BKH Kufstein with undetermined injuries,” the police said.

Avalanche warning service warns of old snow
There is also a significant avalanche risk in the Tyrolean mountains this weekend. The avalanche warning service of the state of Tyrol declares level three in many parts of the state and sees the greatest danger mainly due to the weak old snow: “The dangerous places are above the tree line on all outcrops, including in the area of the tree line. The danger spots are barely recognizable even for experienced users. The danger spots are more common in terrain that is rarely driven on.”

Mountain rescuers at work continuously a week ago
Last weekend, the emergency services throughout Tyrol were already on their toes. A total of eight people died there in numerous avalanche accidents. Many of them could not be rescued until a few hours after the avalanche due to the circumstances. Five people died on Sunday alone.
