“Setup” – Trump: Documents were forced on me

Date:

Donald Trump never tires of portraying the investigations against himself as politically motivated and warning of the “danger to American democracy.” In a TV interview, the former president now claimed that the classified documents seized during a search of his property in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, were planted on him.

“They put her there. It’s a set up,” Trump said in an interview with Indian TV channel NDTV on Thursday about photos of classified documents on the floor of his villa during the search. Trump also complained about the instrumentalization of the judiciary. “It’s bad for our country,” said the Republican, who continues to fuel speculation that he will run again in the next presidential election.

In early August, FBI investigators searched Trump’s mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The FBI seized several sets of documents classified as top secret. Since Trump kept the administration on his private estate after his term in office, he may have broken the law. This is now being investigated.

Ex-minister of justice denies charges
Former US Attorney General William Barr now sees a real risk for Trump of being accused of mishandling classified government documents. But he would advise against such a move, Barr emphasized in an interview with the American news channel Fox News. Barr’s rationale: It’s unclear what that would mean for the country, what precedent it would set, and whether people really understood that dealing with government documents was serious business. “I hope these factors will convince the government not to impeach him because I don’t want him to be impeached as a former president,” Barr said.
