On Thursday evening, a man armed with a knife attacked several passers-by near a train station in Bavaria, injuring two of them. When the police arrested the attacker, he allegedly attacked the officers who intervened and also shouted “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”). Police officers stopped the 30-year-old with shots. The assailant succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The attacker is said to be a 30-year-old man. A police spokesman said Thursday evening that no further details will be given due to investigative tactics. “But we know who he is.” The man’s area is currently being investigated and searched. However, it cannot yet be confirmed whether there is a terrorist or Islamic background.
Police said the two injured passers-by were not in life-threatening condition. The police officers were unharmed. The crime scene was cordoned off Thursday evening for forensic examination. Police called on witnesses to what happened to come forward.
Islamic terror in Ansbach
Incidentally, in 2016 the first suicide attack with an Islamic background on German soil took place in Ansbach. A 27-year-old Syrian wanted to kill as many victims as possible at a music festival. But the asylum seeker was turned away at the entrance because he did not have a ticket. Shortly afterwards, his backpack exploded just as the perpetrator was standing in front of a wine bar.
He died himself, several people were injured. The suicide bomber had previously recorded a confession video referring to the Islamic State terrorist militia.
