The Darscho in Burgenland was the last Mecca for fish and birds. That’s over now. Due to the drought, the animals that would normally hibernate in the country have already left for their quarters.
The fishermen from Apetlon try to save a few more fish from the last pools in Darscho. Because now it’s really finished: after the paint could no longer be supplied with water by pumps, it also dried up.
noticeable dryness
The Darscho, also known as Warmsee, has been the last port of call for thousands of migratory and water birds in recent weeks. The drought is already noticeable during the bird migration: many of the animals that do not hibernate here have left for their wintering area earlier.
In the area people now hope for a wet autumn and winter, so that at least some water will return to the ponds and the lake.
