It is almost a miracle that the driver is “only” slightly injured: Friday morning a 34-year-old Tyrolean drove almost without braking on a truck that was stuck in a traffic jam on the Inntalautobahn in the Unterland. At the very last moment, the driver was able to steer slightly to the left, which may have saved his life. The right side of the vehicle, on the other hand, was completely crushed by the force of the impact. One policewoman describes: “If someone had been in the passenger seat, they probably wouldn’t have survived!”
The terrible accident happened around 8 am near Kundl (Kufstein district): Due to a breakdown car near a construction site near Wörgl-Ost – the vehicle had a blowout – there was a truck backlog on the A12. A 34-year-old Tyrolean may have overlooked the end of the traffic jam at Kundl – and drove almost uncontrollably on the back of a truck.
last minute response
“The driver tried to swerve to the left at the last minute,” a police officer told Krone. And to this reaction, the 34-year-old owes his life. While the passenger side was completely crushed and destroyed by the crash, the driver was able to get out under his own power. He suffered “only” minor injuries. “Thank goodness there was no one else in the car, a passenger probably wouldn’t have survived,” the officer continued.
After first aid at the accident site, the 34-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Kufstein district hospital. “He has since been released into home care,” it reads.
22 kilometers backlog of trucks
Of course, the accident also caused enormous disruption in early traffic. The A12 had to be completely closed for a short time in the vicinity of the accident. The next traffic jam for trucks in the first lane stretched 22 kilometers back.
