Ambassador to Berlin: – German government has crossed the “red line”.

Date:

While the Ukrainian army’s successes have fueled debate over further arms supplies from Germany, Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergei Nechayev warns: civilian population deployed in the Donbass is a ‘red line’ that the German government (…) should not have crossed.”

Nechayev referred to Germany’s “moral and historical responsibility for the crimes of Nazism in World War II”. In the course of the Ukraine crisis, the German government has destroyed good bilateral relations with Russia and is undermining the process of reconciliation between peoples.

Ambassador: Germans have gambled their role as intermediaries
According to the Russian diplomat, Germany is one of the driving forces behind the West’s sanctions policy against Russia. The ambassador therefore denied Berlin a mediating role in the conflict.

Ukraine’s successes in repelling the Russian invasion forces have now called for more weapons in Germany to make the attacked country louder again. In the coalition, the German Greens and FDP in particular are pushing for the supply of heavy weapons. The Chancellor Party SPD closed more weapon shipments did not speak out, but spoke out to do it alone.

German Defense Minister: A lot of equipment only on paper
Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) is reluctant to deliver from the stocks of the German Bundeswehr. In the online magazine “Politico” she referred to the NATO agreement to strengthen the eastern flank, which Germany takes very seriously.

But: “I need to be able to transfer material to Lithuania. And I’ll say it again: I have a lot of equipment on paper – but when I look at the operational readiness, it looks very different.” This is due to the previous underfunding of the Bundeswehr. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg found recently, however, it has become more important to support Ukraine than to replenish weapons stocks in NATO countries as planned.
