After the fatal fall of a nine-month-old baby from a balcony in Vienna-Donaustadt – his 11-year-old brother is suspected of being involved in the crime – a doctor has now examined the older boy. The medic concluded that the requirements for admission to a psychiatric ward would be met. However, the police are no longer investigating.
It happened Friday evening: the mother of the two children was in the kitchen, the two boys in the living room. When the 33-year-old came back into the room, only the 11-year-old was there. The baby was found moments later in a meadow below the apartment’s balcony. It had fallen from the fifth floor.
Examination by medical officer
The boy died in hospital from serious head injuries. His 11-year-old brother, who suffers from a neurological disorder, has not yet been able to comment on what happened. He was examined by a doctor on Sunday. This “confirmed that the requirements for admission to a psychiatric ward had been met,” police said.
All final findings have been sent to the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, the police emphasized on Monday. The boy is younger than 14 years old and is therefore not responsible for criminal offences.
