A German paraglider fell from a height of about 50 to 60 meters after taking off from the Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen (Flachgau). Despite prompt assistance and CPR attempts, the 64-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
The 64-year-old German from the state of Lower Saxony tried to fly his paraglider from the top of the Zwölferhorn towards Laimerfeld in St. Gilgen. Shortly after takeoff, they must have become entangled in the wing’s control lines, causing the wing to spin. The 64-year-old was unable to control the parachute and fell from a height of 50 to 60 meters.
A doctor observing the crash from St. Gilgen immediately climbed to the crash site, called the rescue helicopter and performed initial CPR measures. Despite the efforts of the first responder and the crew of the rescue helicopter, which arrived moments later, the 64-year-old succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing.
