The Association for Austrian-Germans (GSÖD) is once again looking for the Austrian word or non-word of the year 2022 to find the successor to “shadow chancellor” and “silkmaker”. The announcement will take place on December 1.
The search is conducted annually by the GSÖD in collaboration with the APA – Austria Press Agency. Words that Austrians have noticed positively or negatively since the end of last year can now be sent back to the jury via the website https://oewort.at.
The jury will meet for the first time in November and select the candidate words, which will be put to the vote a little later.
Last year ‘shadow chancellor’ was voted word of the year. When it came to the nonsense of the year, the ‘lateral thinkers’ came out on top. The term “cringe” was chosen as the youth word.
