the Norwegian company statkraftEurope’s largest renewable energy producer, presented today at the Lehendakari, Inigo Urkulluthe two wind farms it plans to build on the border between Álava and Gipuzkoa with an investment of more than 90 million euros.

In a press release, the company said Tuesday the executive vice president of Statkraft for Europe, Barbara Flescheand the company’s general manager for Spain and Portugal, Jose Miguel Ferrervisited the Lehendakaritza to explain Urkullu the status of the projects and their strategic approach, structured around three axes: socialization of energy, zero kilometer of electricity supply for industry and public-private partnership.

Specifically, Statkraft is making progress in wind farms Itsarazon the border between Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, and piaspe, in Gipuzkoa. The first will have a capacity of 52.8 megawatts (MW), enabling it to “provide clean, indigenous and affordable energy to” more than 44,000 households“while Piaspe, with 33 MW, will have the capacity to deliver more than 24,000 households.

The commissioning of both parks, which are in the development phase, is planned for 2027.

Statkraft’s strategy in the Basque Country, as Flesche and Ferrer explained to the Lehendakari, is about a long-term commitment, involving both citizens and business.

To this end, Statkraft continues in social participation formulas such as local energy communities, so that the citizens of the municipalities affected by the project and the immediate surroundings have the opportunity to participate directly in the energy transition process in the Basque Country and “experience a direct financial benefit, with significant savings on your electricity costs.

The company has already communicated this to some of the municipalities where the parks will be installed, such as: Azpeitia.

Flesche and Ferrer also wanted to share with Urkullu the key challenges facing Statkraft when it comes to advancing the decarbonisation of the Basque Country.

“So, taking into account that less than 20% of installed capacity in the Basque Country is renewable -0.5% of the total in Spain-, but as the sixth autonomous community with the highest consumption, Statkraft considers it essential to accelerate the deployment of new capacity, always taking into account the environment and territory,” says Company.

Statkraft is a leading international hydropower generation company and the largest producer of renewable energy in Europe. The group produces hydro, wind, solar and gas energy and also supplies district heating. Statkraft has 4,800 employees in 19 countries.
