Parallel to the general number of infections, the number of positive PCR tests in schools continued to fall in the last week before the Easter holidays. After about 10,300 cases in the previous week, the Ministry of Education and the Vienna Education Directorate reported a total of 6,978 positive PCR tests of schoolchildren this time. The share of positive tests is also decreasing, for the tests organized by the Ministry of Education (excluding Vienna) it was 0.5 percent (last week: 0.7).
In Vienna, an infection was registered this school week among 3,343 students (last week: 4,763), with a different test system being used in the federal capital with “Gargel everything” than in the other federal states. In the other states there were also consistently significant decreases in positive tests.
A school and another 70 classes switched to distance learning
This time there were 1207 in Lower Austria (last week: 1487), in Upper Austria 953 (1383), in Styria 596 (883), in Tyrol 266 (434), in Carinthia 237 (425), in Salzburg 221 ( 373) , in Burgenland 217 (235) and in Vorarlberg 184 (282). One school and another 70 classes have now switched to distance learning, the week before there were two schools and another 120 classes.
During the Easter holidays, only one test per week is needed
After the Easter holidays, a different test regime applies: instead of at least twice, a PCR test is only performed once a week. These tests count towards the free tier of five tests per month, reducing the chance of further free tests. Antigen tests, which were last used as standard on Monday, are not scheduled until positive cases have occurred.
