Tidal wave activated – Kiev: Russians damaged the dam

Date:

After power plants, the Russian military also apparently attacked a dam in Ukraine. According to the Kiev leadership, the dam in the central Ukrainian industrial city of Kryvyi Rih was badly damaged in a massive rocket attack. Such large volumes of water flowed through the destroyed pumping station on Wednesday that the Inhulez River threatened to overflow its banks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke of an attempt to flood his hometown.

“All the occupiers can do is create panic, create an emergency, leave people without light, heat, water or food,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. “Can this break us? Not at all.” On Wednesday, he visited the recaptured city of Izyum in the east of the country.

Zelenskyy involved in car accident
According to his spokesman, he was involved in an accident involving his motorcade that evening in Kiev. A vehicle collided with the head of state’s car and escort vehicles, spokesman Serhiy Nykyforov wrote on Facebook early Thursday morning. Selenskyj was examined by a doctor. “No serious injuries were found.”

Apparently the transport infrastructure has also been affected
According to various Ukrainian reports, seven or eight rockets were fired at Kryvyi Rih. The head of the administration of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Valentin Resnichenko, talked about Ch-22 cruise missiles, which were fired remotely by Russian fighter jets. The city’s transportation infrastructure was also attacked. Initially, there were no casualties. In this case too, the information provided by the belligerents could not be independently verified.

The reservoir serves the drinking water supply of the city of 625,000 inhabitants. Due to the damage to the pumping station, the water supply in large parts of the city was cut off. Despite the high water level on the river, the situation is under control, Zelensky’s deputy chief of staff Kyrylo Tymoshenko said. The situation in the parts of the city where there is a risk of flooding is continuously monitored.

Should tidal wave slow down Ukrainian offensive?
However, according to Ukrainian media, the tidal wave on the Inhulez also has possible military effects. Further south near Kherson, the tributary of the Dnipro currently forms the front line between Ukrainian and Russian forces. The high water level can make crossing the river more difficult.
