The Scholz Executive reaffirms its firm support for the defensive war against Russia

Germany this Thursday announced the shipment of new heavy war material to Ukraine in support of its defensive war against Russia. Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht has announced that this country will provide Kiev with two more “Mars II” armored rocket launchers and two hundred ammunition missiles.

Ukraine already had three other armored rocket launchers of this type previously supplied by Germany, which play a relevant role in the offensive to recapture the territory invaded by Russia, as they can reach and destroy enemy positions with great precision at a distance of less than one hundred kilometers. In addition, the Berlin executive will provide Ukraine with fifty armored vehicles for the transport of ‘Dingo’ troops, usually used for patrols and reconnaissance missions.

The Social Democratic politician also stressed that an exchange agreement with Greece is about to be concluded, whereby this country will supply Ukraine with 40 Soviet-made “BMP 1” battle tanks and Germany will supply the Hellenic country with an equal number of German-made tanks. ‘Marder’.

The Kiev government, as well as prominent green and liberal politicians from the governing coalition in Berlin, have in recent days urged the Executive, chaired by Chancellor Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, to send Ukraine more heavy equipment as soon as possible for the defense of the country.

However, Lambrecht’s latest announcement does not feature any of the weapons requested by the authorities of the invaded country. Ukraine recently demanded that Germany send main battle tanks ‘Leopard II’ and tanks of the ‘Marder’ type.

The ‘Mars II’ is a tracked, multi-missile self-propelled artillery system developed during the Cold War to combat the Warsaw Pact tanks. Each battery consists of eight launchers that fire anti-tank missiles at a distance of up to 100 kilometers with great precision.

The three units Ukraine had so far have apparently played a relevant role in the counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region. The ‘Dingo’ is a wheeled armored vehicle with a heavy machine gun of which there are up to sixteen variants and which can carry up to eight soldiers. It has mine protection and has been used by the ‘Bundeswehr’, the federal army, in its missions abroad, both in Afghanistan in the past and in Mali today.
