Two of the suspects in the 2016 Brussels terrorist attacks have been released. The men are accused of, among other things, raising the murderers in an apartment. The main hearing begins on October 13.
The preliminary hearing began on Monday, in the presence of nine of the ten suspects. One of them is considered missing or deceased. The men are charged with 32 terrorist murders, attempted terrorist murder of 695 people and involvement in the activities of a terrorist organization.
One of them – Ibrahim Farisi – is accused of involvement only by the prosecutor. He is said to have housed the killers in an apartment and cleaned them up with his brother Smail shortly after the attack. According to news agency Belga, the release of both Ibrahim and Smail Farisi has now been requested. Both had been released before the trial, but were arrested shortly before because they feared the risk of absconding.
Now they can appear as free men at the trial that begins October 13. This should take six to nine months.
On March 22, 2016, a total of three bombs exploded in the Belgian capital: two at Zaventem airport and one in a metro at Maalbeek station, near the EU institutions. The terrorist attacks killed 32 people, as well as three Islamic murderers. Several hundred people were injured, some seriously.
