In the parliamentary elections in Israel on November 1, 40 parties will stand as candidates. The Central Election Commission completed the registration of the various lists of candidates on Thursday evening. It is the fifth election in three and a half years.
Yair Lapid of the Futures Party is currently serving as interim prime minister after the coalition led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett disintegrated in June.

The fragile eight-party government alliance came to power last year, replacing long-term Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu, accused of corruption, is now aiming for a comeback as leader of the right-wing conservative Likud party. However, according to the latest polls, another close election result and a possible stalemate is to be expected.
Seated probably only in second place
The Likud party once again becomes the largest parliamentary group, with Lapid’s Future Party, which is at the political center, ranking second in the polls. The third strongest force is expected to be the new centre-right National Union. In Hebrew, the alliance, led by Defense Minister Benny Gantz, calls itself Hamakhane Hamamlakhti (roughly: The State Camp).
