The United Kingdom’s Department of Culture has reported that the queue to access the interior of Westminster Hall, where Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin rests, is over 24 hours. This morning, UK authorities have asked the public not to connect anyone else for the time being, as maximum capacity is almost reached. The moment that happens, more people should not stand in line.
Yesterday, September 16, the mile-long queue in central London was supposed to be interrupted before seven o’clock to avoid further congestion.
Between Wednesday, the opening day and Monday morning, the day of the state funeral, some 400,000 people are expected to pass through the burial chapel to say goodbye to the deceased sovereign.
Incident at Westminster Hall
has been a man stopped last night in the burning chapel after trying touching the coffin of Elizabeth II. According to “The Sun” newspaper, the man climbed the steps of the catafalque and tried to tear off the royal banner covering the coffin. The incident interrupted the chapel’s live broadcast for 15 minutes.
