Race canceled – Five mountain runners missing in Valle d’Aosta in Italy

Date:

In Italy’s Aosta Valley near the Swiss border, five participants in an extreme mountain run have been reported missing. On Saturday-evening, the weather conditions had deteriorated earlier, after which the game was halted. A search has been started.

Italian news agency ANSA reported high winds and snow storms in the area. The search is focused on the area around the Col de Barasson at an altitude of about 2600 meters near the Swiss border. “We kept in touch with them all night,” said Alessandra Nicoletti, the race director.

In addition to the race organizers, the Valle d’Aosta mountain rescue service, the alpine rescue service, the valley fire service and the forest service were also involved in the operations.

The civil defense helicopter has not yet been able to reach the area due to poor visibility. He therefore led the rescuers to the fog line, who then continued the search over land.

The Tor des Glaciers is a downhill run over a distance of 450 kilometers and an altitude of more than 32,000 meters.
