After the start of winter on Saturday, the higher parts of Tyrol remained snowy on Sunday. Although temperatures rose, which also lifted the obligation to have snow chains in the west of the country, the cold spell is not over yet. Photos of the white splendor reached the “Krone” from all over Tyrol over the weekend.
Many Tyroleans did not let the cold spoil their mood – on the contrary. Elias and Markus from the Rotkogelhütte (2666 meters) in Ötztal Sölden, for example, enjoyed a cold “Sölsch” in a sun lounger.
The Kühtai at about 2000 meters altitude was also in white splendor – here the first people were already unpacking their sleds. The ÖAMTC also had good news for everyone who traveled by car on Sunday morning, as the rising temperatures caused the snow chains around the Arlberg to be lifted. “But winter tires are strongly recommended,” warned the traffic club.
According to the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), snow up to 1300 meters is expected until Wednesday, temperatures only slowly rise to maximum values of around 15 degrees.
