First shipment – 751,680 doses of the new Omicron vaccine have arrived

Date:

A further 751,680 doses of BioNTech/Pfizer’s BA.4/BA.5 modified vaccine were delivered to Austria on Tuesday, ahead of schedule. According to the Ministry of Health, deliveries will be made to the vaccination centers in the federal states from Friday.

“Vaccinations are one of the most important measures to ensure that we get through the autumn and winter well. With the new vaccines, we now have extra money at our disposal to protect the population against serious corona disease,” Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) appealed to the APA.

Protection against sub-variants
The vaccines are so-called bivalent vaccines, which, in addition to the active substances against the omicron subvariants BA.1 or BA.4/BA.5, also contain half of those against the original virus, which provides better protection against further mutations.
