Prices for the Wiener Linien semester ticket are now changing for the 2023 summer semester following a final judgment last week. However, the costs will remain the same for the 2022/23 winter semester.
“We ask for your understanding: A rate change is accompanied by a large number of adjustments that we unfortunately cannot implement in the short term. For semester ticket purchases made in the past: We are already working on a quick and easy solution for the past semesters and will inform you here in good time. about informing”, explains Wiener Linien press spokesman Daniel Amann on Wednesday.
Ticketerstattung.at complaint
Last week, Wiener Linien was finally convicted of discrimination when buying semester tickets. A ticket for students with a primary residence outside Vienna costs 150 euros, but only 75 euros for Viennese students. Ticketersatz.at complained about the refund of the price difference of 75 euros and 300 euros per ticket for the “personal damage suffered in connection with the unequal treatment in the purchase of semester tickets”, according to the platform.
More than four million euros
The design lawsuit has been fully awarded, which means that students are entitled to 375 euros per semester ticket according to this ruling. The amount currently stands at over four million euros. All students without a main residence in Vienna are affected. According to a final judgment of the competent regional court, the fact that Wiener Linien treats students unequally because of their primary residence is not objectively justified.
Wiener Linien confirmed the decision of the Vienna court. “Of course we abide by the current individual judgment of the Vienna Regional Court on the lawsuit of the three students behind it and will carry it out,” a statement said.
