19-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg becomes ambassador for a Swedish charity that grants wishes to children with serious illnesses. Thunberg has been involved with the foundation for a long time.
Now she is taking the next step as an official ambassador, representatives of the organization “Min Stora Dag” (“My big day” in German) said Wednesday. She feels very honored and happy with it, says the climate activist in a video from the foundation. “It means a lot to me because I think it’s important to shed light on the struggle that many children and young people with illnesses and diagnoses face every day in silence.” Affected children need more than just medicine to get better.
According to the foundation, established in 2000, 200,000 children and young people in Sweden are struggling with a serious illness or diagnosis. The patron saint has been Princess Madeleine for years, the younger sister of the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria. Thunberg herself has Asperger’s, a form of autism that she describes as a strength.
