Serious accident at work Wednesday afternoon on a farm in Kitzbühel. When making wood chips, the farmer (57) grabbed both hands. She had to be flown to the hospital in Salzburg.
The woman was at the wood chipper between 1:00 PM and 2:15 PM, placing wood on a conveyor belt. “The 57-year-old got his right hand in the iron roller of the conveyor belt for unknown reason,” police said. Presumably the woman from Unterland wanted to support herself with her left hand, which also became trapped.
Various technical tools in use
After the conveyor was shut down, a hand was freed by a casually passing first responder. “The jammed second forearm was freed from the machine with painstaking precision work using rescue scissors, two spreaders, pedal cutters and hydraulic cylinders,” says the Kitzbühel city fire brigade.
The woman was then taken by rescue helicopter to the accident hospital in Salzburg.
