New details about the alleged attempted murder in Innsbruck: The 24-year-old suspect, who allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a knife on Wednesday evening, apparently stabbed his victim at least ten times with a knife. The Libyan has so far refused to make a statement.
There were dramatic scenes that unfolded around 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Saggen neighborhood of Innsbruck. An argument between the 24-year-old Libyan and his Austrian girlfriend (29) got so out of hand that the man grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his partner with it. “At least ten times”, as Gert Hofmann, deputy head of the LKA Tyrol, described to “Krone”.
Collapsed in the street
Covered in blood, the seriously injured victim was able to flee the apartment onto the street before collapsing there. Passers-by gave first aid and sounded the alarm. The urgently suspected friend had fled before the police arrived. Three hours later, he was tracked down and arrested during a manhunt on Maria-Theresien-Strasse.
Every statement so far denied
The alleged perpetrator was still in police custody on Thursday afternoon, where he remained silent. “So far he has refused to make a statement,” said researcher Hofmann. The suspect has not yet been spotted by the police and has valid asylum status.
The motive for the crime is still unclear. The 29-year-old woman is in the clinic in the regular ward. Further investigations are underway.
