Administrative problems – delays: teachers work 10 weeks for free

Date:

Lecturers were unable to receive a salary due to leaving the Human Resources department.

For many newly hired teachers, the service contract is still pending – we reported. A few days ago, the education department assured the “Krone” that the new teachers would still receive their salary on October 15.

No successor for HR manager yet
Now the “Krone” has received a letter from the education department that has gone to all directors. This indicates that there is no successor after the departure of the HR manager. This can cause delays in payroll processing. For example, an internal support option has been set up for new teachers in the short term.

However, if the teachers are not assigned to a school in time, the newcomers will not receive their first salary until mid-November (10 weeks after joining!). The Education Directorate says: “The intention (!) is that the salaries will be transferred as of 15 October.”

Meanwhile, the anger among teachers is great. “The education department urgently needs to be professionally organized,” says a pedagogue. “My young colleagues were advised to take out a bridging loan,” says another AHS teacher.

This is nothing new for Mrs. B. Her husband started teaching at a Viennese HTL three years ago. He is still waiting for his service contract. “We are missing out on a lot of money as a result, because his previous service periods have never been taken into account. A private company cannot afford something like that,” says Ms. B.

Now it’s time to vibrate…
