2 suspects in custody – Innsbruck: Great silence after bloody deeds

Date:

Wednesday’s two violent crimes in Innsbruck shook Tyrol. And they are a mystery to investigators at the state police station. Especially in the district of Hötting, there are many question marks behind the matter. The suspects remain very quiet. Both are now in prison.

A 63-year-old was found dead in his apartment in Hötting, and moments later his son (38) turned himself in to the police and confessed to a murder. That same evening, a Libyan man (24) stabbed his partner (29) at least ten times in her apartment on Viktor-Danl-Strasse. The woman is seriously injured in hospital.

“The 24-year-old has so far refused to testify,” said Gert Hofmann, deputy head of the National Criminal Investigation Service. The brutal attack on his local partner was preceded by a dispute.

However, the background to the murder of the pensioner in Hötting is still completely unclear. “The victim’s son, who had stab wounds, is not communicating with us,” Hofmann regrets. For example, on Friday polls in the vicinity of the dead man, who lived alone in the apartment, hoped for knowledge. The work of securing evidence should also bring some light into the darkness.

Son reportedly suffers from a mental disorder
What is certain is that the son, who admitted to the murder but not explicitly to his father, had previously been spotted by the police. “But it wasn’t something extreme,” says Gert Hofmann. According to insiders, the suspect is said to have a mental disorder. By order of the public prosecutor, the 38-year-old – just like the Libyan – is now in the prison of Innsbruck.

Fourth murder in Tyrol this year
That was the fourth murder in Tyrol this year. On March 25, a 29-year-old local in an apartment in Kufstein strangled a 51-year-old to unconsciousness, causing the woman to later die in hospital. The act was caused by an insult. Also after an argument, a 70-year-old local man strangled his wife (68) on April 24 at a family home in Schwendt in the Kitzbühel district. Moments later, the man committed suicide.

The drama in Reutte will also remain unforgettable: on May 30, an 18-year-old German killed his Tyrolean girlfriend (17) in the parking lot of the “Highline179” with a knife and then committed suicide by jumping from the suspension bridge.

“The four murders this year are not an increase compared to previous years,” emphasizes criminologist Hofmann.
